You don’t know me, do you?

To the staff and students at Trimukti University -an internationally acclaimed university- and her neighbors, Nicole Simaremare is a respected senior lecturer in the English department. She has a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a master’s degree in education. The current subjects she teaches include educational psychology, psycholinguistics, and poetry. Nicole takes her work very seriously and never stops learning to enrich her knowledge.
She is also known as an all-round multitalented writer. Her writing career began when she won a national story-writing competition. She has never stopped writing ever since. Although she has a keen interest in writing stories and poems, she continues to write academic article for journal and textbooks. She also writes a lot of books –both fiction and non- fiction- which publisher love. She is now working on a book called Perbandingan Tata Bahasa Inggris dan Indonesia and the same time on a suspense novel called the blade.
Nicole led a challenging life. Her life is difficult and complex but interesting. She is the oldest child in a family of three children. Her parents pass away when she was in second year at Trimukti University. Life force her to be the breadwinner in her family and she worked as a privet English teacher, a translator, and an interpreter. She had students who studied at her humble home. While her friends enjoyed the luxury of having fun, she had to juggle her studies and her jobs. Despite that she was still very young, she manages to support her brother and sister and put them through school.
After finishing her studies, she began teaching at Trimukty University. Her hard work paid off. She was granted a scholarship from Trimukti University for a ma in education, so she was able to continue her studies.
Then, she met CConstantine Simangunsong. They fell in love and planned to get married after she received her ma. Constantine insisted on a very simple wedding. Unfortunately, they broke up two days before d-day because the handsome and gentle Constantine turned out to be married man with three children. Finding out the truth, she broke down in tears and promised herself never to trust any man again. Many people think it is a shame for her to shut herself away from love like that, especially because she is very attractive. Although she has not found the love of her life, her career continuous to rocket.
Nicole is very good looking; she has the reputation of being a stern lecturer. She hardly ever smiles or laughs. Her students call her ‘the iceberg’ because she is a rigid disciplinarian. While other lecturers hang out and talk freely whit their students, Nicole always keeps her distance. This makes them reluctant to approach her students with their studies if only they dare to ask for her help.
Outsider her academic world, however, Nicole has another profession. Being a lecturer, she has strong skill in public speaking. She occasionally is asked to emcee for academic events. One thing led to another and without realizing it, she finally becomes a professional emcee. She even hosts a music program on TV. The repertoire of the singer who are going to perform in the program. The repertoire include the songs from American top 40’s to Indonesian folksong, from dangdut to jazz, keroncong to r’nb. This has won her a lot of fans and her regular viewer adores her. Some gentleman have eve asked her out but she never accepted.
Her students were really surprised when they found out that the teacher they knew as ‘the iceberg’ had a different personality, which they would never have tough of. They thought they knew her but they did not.
